And the his and hers closets were comically small and right on top of each other, something that could easily have been fixed by stealing a bit of space from the bedroom (which was giant). There is definitely a serious flying bug problem (the suite has screens, but it's just impossible to keep the bugs away). Small details like the fixtures weren't really that high end. First of all: the beautiful suites do have issues first, our particular one was extremely dark most of the day. The mattress on the bed was really, really good. The view from the bedroom, towards the East, was also nice, with spectacular sunrises. Let's start with the good: The fact that it is a brand new resort, with new construction, is definitely a plus the Deluxe Mountain One Bedroom Suite - which adds up to about $2000 a night - was spacious, with a spectacular master bathroom, with an indoor and outdoor shower and a gorgeous tub. On one hand I do regret that decision, on the other I am happy we didn't book longer. So when we got our reservation for one of our favorite restaurants in the world - SingleThread - it made sense to give the new Montage Healdsburg a shot and spend a night there. They acknowledged my request but didn't seem surprised or bothered that our room had so many spiders.Īs a frequent visitor of this part of Sonoma, I was very excited to hear about the opening of a brand new high-end resort in Healdsburg. I called the front desk to let them know this is something they need to address. The rooms are have beautiful detail and the resort's setting in a vineyard makes it picturesque. Incredibly patient and kind they honored my random drink request and the sommelier makes fantastic wine recommendations and goes out of his way to make an excellent pairing with your meal. Restaurant & Pool bar staff: 5 stars: The restaurant and pool bar staff bumped montage from 2 stars to 3 stars. While not major was just a final insult to injury. Finally, we purchased the stay and play package for a $100 resort credit which the hotel forgot to credit us on. I had to repeat my name and room three times and the clerk was convinced I had the wrong room. The checkout staff saw me waiting for our final bill and just let me stand there. At check-out the stay ended on a sour note. Throughout our stay I kept expecting after being promised many times how the hotel would make it right, some type of compensation, however there was none. When I arrived at the hotel I presumed some sort of extra wine bottle or gift offering or even a note would be left in our room after letting the hotel know, that no, our reservation did not work out for us. Paul Hobbs was amazing and sent my sister and I off with a delicious bottle of Pinot. I wasn't able to make this time and ultimately had to cancel the reservation. Paul Hobbs however called me 24 hours later to inform me the time the hotel requested and what they had were different. The hotel managed to make me a reservation at Paul Hobbs (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). However, they promised repeatedly how they would make this right, how they would do something special and on and on. By this time of course, they could not get me into my selected winery. Finally, the week of our visit I managed to connect with the concierge. I repeated this process two more times with no response. I was unable to reach the concierge and left a message with the front desk staff as well as a voicemail. Upon reading this, I called the hotel right away (3-4 weeks in advanced of my stay) to gain a tasting at one of Sonoma's very exclusive wineries. One of the resort's most highlighted features is its access to exclusive wineries for guests. We loved the staff at the pool bar but concierge and front desk operations have quite a few kinks in their operations to iron out before being considered a luxurious resort. My sister and I stayed during the resort's first month opening. I'd heard so much about this resort and couldn't wait to experience it myself. Overall, I really wanted to love Montage Healdsburg.
